Barnes’ Notes on the Bible

Praying always – It would be well for the soldier who goes forth to battle to pray – to pray for victory; or to pray that he may be prepared for death, should he fall. But soldiers do not often feel the necessity of this. To the Christian soldier, however, it is indispensable. Prayer crowns all lawful efforts with success and gives a victory when nothing else would. No matter how complete the armor; no matter how skilled we may be in the science of war; no matter how courageous we may be, we may be certain that without prayer we shall be defeated. God alone can give the victory; and when the Christian soldier goes forth armed completely for the spiritual conflict, if he looks to God by prayer, he may be sure of a triumph. This prayer is not to be intermitted. It is to be always. In every temptation and spiritual conflict we are to pray; see notes on Luke 18:1.

With all prayer and supplication – With all kinds of prayer; prayer in the closet, the family, the social meeting, the great assembly; prayer at the usual hours, prayer when we are specially tempted, and when we feel just like praying (see the notes, Matthew 6:6) prayer in the form of supplication for ourselves, and in the form of intercession for others. This is, after all, the great weapon of our spiritual armor, and by this we may hope to prevail.

PRESCRIBED SCRIPTURES FOR THE WEEK OF 8/13-8/19

  • Monday – Philippians 4:19
  • Tuesday, August 14, 2012 – II Chronicles 20:3

Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news and begged the LORD for guidance. He also ordered everyone in Judah to begin fasting. (NLT)

Gill’s Exposition of the Entire Bible

And Jehoshaphat feared,…. Exceedingly, as the Targum adds, not merely because of the number of his enemies, for he had forces enough to go forth against them, see 2 Chronicles 17:14, but chiefly because the Lord had told him that wrath was upon him from him, 2 Chronicles 19:2 and he might fear that this was the time for the execution of it:

and set himself to seek the Lord; by prayer and supplication, with all seriousness, fervor, and constancy:

and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah; a day of humiliation and mourning for sin before the Lord; when they were ordered to abstain from bodily food and labor, that they might be fit and more at leisure for spiritual exercises.

  • Wednesday – Psalms 103:2-3
  • Thursday – Exodus 23:25
  • Friday – Proverbs 17:22
  • Saturday – Philippians 4:6-7

A Prayer For My Readers

A PRAYER FOR MY READERS

Heavenly Father,

I humbly come to You this day, this hour, this very moment asking Your forgiveness of any sins that I may have committed. Lord, make me worthy to pray this prayer for my readers. You are an awesome and loving God, who makes all things – good, bad, and ugly – work together for good to us that love You and have been called according to Your purpose.  Give us ears to hear Your promptings and the will to obey.

Lord, some of my brothers and sisters are burdened down by the troubles of this world. Help me to do my part to strengthen them. May this site be the spark that ignites the fire that You have placed on the inside of them. Give me caring words that encourage, inspire, and comfort everyone who visits this site. May my words, actions, and deeds always be a reflection of You. Help me to faithfully pray for my readers each and every day. That they may come into right relationship with You, themselves, and all others.

In the matchless Name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!

Step 4 – DEVELOP A PRAYER LIFE

Step 4 – DEVELOP A PRAYER LIFE

Good morning, temple shapers! I can’t stress enough the importance of step four in getting started reviving your…God’s temple. Prayer! If you haven’t already, develop a prayer life.  Bodily exercise is perfectly fine. Necessary even if, like me, you have issues with stiff, swollen joints. But spiritual exercise is much more important and is a tonic for all you do.  So exercise yourself spiritually, and practice being a better Christian because that will help you not only in this life, but in the life to come.

Today’s prescribed Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

I’m praying for you! Until you read again…Hold Your Hope!
